An Ode to Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner has long been one of my makeup staples. Over the years, I must have tried dozens of them. Here, an ode to my favourite liquid liner. Of. All. Time. (So far!)

Because I write about beauty for a living (among other things), it’s not often that I buy products again when I run out. I’ve had phases where I wear kohl pencil, and others when I just stick to dark shadow. But my go-to eye makeup look usually involves a little or a lot of liquid eyeliner, depending on the occasion.

On a trip to Japan, my friend was on the hunt for Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner. According to what she had heard, it was the best one. Of course, I couldn’t resist the urge to snatch one up for myself when we found it (at a discount at Don Quixote, no less). And, well, I haven’t really used another one since. I must be on my fifth or sixth repeat purchase, which has to be some kind of record for me. I stock up on one or two when I’m in Japan, and harass friends and family going there to bring one back to add to my stash.

Why I ❤️ Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner:

  • It has the finest tip of any liner I’ve tried;
  • You need only apply a little pressure to draw a line;
  • Its pigment is dark, so you don’t need to go over an area more than once;
  • Its bristle tip feels like a paintbrush, and is extremely precise, giving you ultimate control over your line;
  • It lasts all day, but washes off easily with regular makeup remover;

Here’s an illustration of the new Super Black version, and a short application video (click on the right arrow) I posted on Instagram to show how fine the tip is:

I’ve compared many other liners to it, but very few have even come close to being as good. Voilà. All hail Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner!

KOJI Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner costs around ¥1,500 and can be found in most pharmacies in Japan. Not travelling to Japan any time soon? Get it online at amazon.ca or YESSTYLE.ca (costs between $15 and $20 CAD).

Meanwhile, Chababa’s eyeliner is always perfect… even though she doesn’t use Dolly Wink.
