Colour That Cares: Sally Hansen’s New Color Therapy Nail Polish

I just came back from a two-week vacation without my computer, which felt great. It also meant I didn’t need to cut my nails quite as often as usual (twice a week; if not, it slows down my typing speed!), which was the perfect opportunity to see how long new Sally Hansen Color Therapy nail polish would last. Let’s just say that I was not disappointed!

Under regular circumstances, I tend to cut my nails quite often; this means I don’t usually keep my polish on for more than a week at most. Regardless, if you see me with colour on my nails, it’s either A) Sally Hansen Miracle Gel (available in pharmacies) or B) CND Vinylux (available in salons). Why? It’s pretty simple: in my experience so far, they’re the only ones that actually last more than two days.  I’ve been using both of these polishes for years, and usually have to remove my nail polish even though it’s still perfectly intact before cutting my nails. Sometimes I even get a little crazy and cut through the polish instead of removing it.

So when I was invited to Sally Hansen’s new launch, I was excited. The reasoning behind Color Therapy: women often complain about their nails being unhealthy, but are ill-equipped to figure out exactly what the problem is. The idea was to create a polish that treats as it colours, helping to make people’s nails generally healthier. Inspired by the hair and skincare industries, this was achieved by incorporating an argan oil complex into the formula. When it was tested, 9 out of 10 women claimed to have healthier nails after 10 days, even after having removed it with an acetone remover (which is harsher on the nails). As for me, I have been blessed with strong, healthy nails; they never really change regardless of what I put on them. I will say that once this polish dries, it has a very pleasant yet subtle scent, and the colours, created in collaboration with nail guru Madeline Poole, are all stunningly gorgeous. My favourites so far: Chai on Life, a beautiful nude hue, and Therapewter, a lovely metallic shade.

Back to my trip: after over a week in Germany, my nail colour still hadn’t budged. Having applied the same hue to my fingernails and toes, I actually kept my polish on my feet for my entire two-week vacation, and it was minimally chipped when I came home. And I wore sandals most of the time!

The entire collection boasts 33 shades, a top coat and a cuticle oil. It hits stores this month (July 2016). $11.95 per bottle.

Maybe someday, Sally Hansen will create claw covers that match their nail polish hues? Chababa and I will be patiently waiting… (and would love to collaborate on the project!)
